River Roch & Bridge
The River Roch gave Rochdale its name. It became polluted during the Industrial Revolution and eventually covered over to accommodate trams and pedestrians.
In recent years, the river has been spectacularly re-opened and regenerated as part of major improvements to the town centre. The opening of the river in 2016 has led to an increase in wildlife. Brown trout, bullhead fish, herons, wagtails and kingfishers have all been seen on this stretch of river in the very heart of town.
